Building Long-Term Success through Sustainable Business Practices | Denmark
23-06-2025

CSR Cyprus, in collaboration with the Cyprus Employers and Industrialists Federation (OEB), successfully concluded a five-day educational program held in Copenhagen from 16–20 June 2025.

The training program aimed to enhance participants’ knowledge and skills while equipping them with valuable tools and insights to demonstrate how sustainability can serve as a driver for profitability, innovation, and long-term business resilience. Twelve participating member companies of the Network had the opportunity to engage in site visits, interactive tours, and workshops hosted by leading sustainable organisations in Denmark. These activities offered exposure to the various ways sustainability is implemented, promoted, and embedded across sectors in this pioneering country.

Beyond its educational value, the trip also provided a unique platform for networking and fostering collaboration — both among member companies and with the Danish organisations we visited. The case studies and real-world examples served as sources of inspiration and practical reference for business and personal growth upon our return to Cyprus’s evolving and rapidly changing business ecosystem.

Key thematic areas covered during the trip, among others, included:

  • Sustainable Urban Planning – Briefing hosted by the City of Copenhagen's Technical and Environmental Administration

  • The upcoming Danish Presidency of the Council of the European Union, the preparatory work being carried out by the Danish Industry Federation (DI) in this context, as well as the corresponding initiatives undertaken by OEB, in light of Cyprus assuming the Presidency. Additionally, DI's work related to ESG reporting, particularly in connection with the latest developments stemming from the Omnibus Directive.
  • Sustainable Housing Solutions – Examination of public and private sector efforts to promote building sustainability and social inclusion and site specific visit

  • Waste-to-Energy Innovation – Tour and presentation at the landmark Copenhill facility

  • Green Finance – Session at Danske Bank focused on sustainable investment, green bonds, and financing the green transition

  • ESG Strategy – Insights into Carlsberg Group’s ESG strategy and guided visit to the Carlsberg Museum

  • Art and Recycling – Exploration of sustainability through art at the Danish Architecture Centre

  • Urban Development and Climate Adaptation – Site visit to the Nordhavn district, showcasing forward-looking solutions for environmental resilience.

  • Integrated Public Utility Systems – Visit to HOFOR (Greater Copenhagen's Energy & Water Living Lab), highlighting sustainable urban services and hands-on environmental education for all ages

Through this initiative in Denmark, as the leading business network dedicated to advancing a culture of sustainability in our country, CSR Cyprus actively embodies the 17th Sustainable Development Goal 17 —Partnerships for the Goals— while also advancing Goal 4 on Quality Education, investing in meaningful learning experiences for its members.

By joining forces, exchanging knowledge, and building strong alliances, we are shaping a more sustainable, resilient, and people-centred future.
